The Swedish World Cyber Games qualifier is taking place this weekend in Skellefteå, Sweden. Sweden’s representative from last year, fnatic, saw their exit in the semi-final when Blank eliminated them.

What all expected to be a showdown between fnatic and SK Gaming, when the Swedish WCG qualifier would take place this weekend. Last year’s representative has been eliminated and a new team will get to represent Sweden at the 2008 World Cyber Games finals in Cologne Germany in November.

The first semi-final was a clash between the “new” SK Gaming and the “new” Begrip. Begrip had already been delivering mixed results during DreamHack. Advancing in the WCG qualifier, but going out way earlier than expected in DreamHack’s own Counter-Strike tournament. SK Gaming with the latest addition of zet did however show a really good shape on two maps. A comfortable victory winning, two maps and only giving away 6 rounds, secured SK Gaming a spot in the final at the Swedish WCG qualifier.

The second finalist should be found between fnatic and Blank, who just meet in the DreamHack tournament, where fnatic managed to get a tie after lacking behind most of the match. It was a totally different fnatic than what we use to see. The first map being Blank’s was fairly close, but Blank still managed to secure a 16:12 win on dust2. On train it was a Blank team with a really sold terrorist play, winning 12:3 on this “CT” dominated map. With a won pistol round and lead by Snajdan, Blank nailed the 4 rounds needed to win on train 16:3 and 2:0 overall.

Blank will now have a go versus SK Gaming in the race to qualify for World Cyber Games 2008. The final will be played tomorrow (Sunday 28th of September) at 12:00 CET. The final will be played best of three, determining who will be Sweden’s 2008 representative in Counter-Strike 1.6.
